Unusual Review Activity: The Cinderford Rusty Pole

Sometimes the internet is just gonna internet.

They’re gonna call a Buffalo Wild Wings and ask for beans. They’re gonna make sure no one forgets the name “Haribo Sugar Free Gummy Bears.” They’re gonna take the common item, and meme it into internet history.

And that’s what we have with the Cinderford Rusty Pole, which is a now-defunct plumbing ventilation pole in Cinderford, England.

Is there any one thing that makes the pole special? Well, like Everest, “it was there.”

The internet loves randomness or the illusion of it, and what’s more random than a 6m pole along a roadside, abutting a sprawling green field? I’ll tell you!

How about: Writing reviews as if the pole were a well-known landmark!

Unfortunately, at time of writing, the TripAdvisor page has been removed (but is available on the Wayback Machine). BUT, there are still Google reviews galore, as well as a thriving Facebook community.

If you find yourself in the area, stop on by!
