When Reviews Turn the Tides: Helldivers 2

Every now and then, the collective power of the internet is put to good use, Ugly Sonics are corrected, and we all feel better about life in general.

Sure, mob mentality can be rash and dangerous, but when you unite in a common good cause, great things can happen. Take Helldivers 2, for example.

For the uninitiated, Helldivers 2 is a video game. That video game saw controversy and a wave of fan backlash when, players were informed they would have to sign in using a PlayStation Network account, every time they played, even if they were playing on a PC instead of a PlayStation. Also, this wasn’t a requirement when the game launched, because things needed to be so so smooth for rollout.

Countries that don’t have access to PSN saw their access to the game removed. Players review-bombed to vent their frustrations. And to their credit, the publishers/developers have listened.

Sony pushed the developer to reverse course and remove the PSN requirement. The game, mired in bad reviews, now looks to be adding a “negative review cape” accessory, as an homage to the chaos.

Now all is well?
