My Stupid Face is Selling the Hutzler 571 Banana Slicer

See that stupid face up there? If you hadn’t already guessed, that stupid face is me, Matt, 50% of Review Party Dot Com.

If you’re new around here, let me fill you in quick like- RPDC is a comedy podcast based on internet reviews, and every 15 episodes we bring to the table an item that has gained an online cult status. We call these Meme Review products, featured in our Me, You, and Meme Review segments, items like the Three Wolf Moon Shirt (parts 1 and 2), the Bic for Her Pens (1, 2), and yes, the Hutzler 571 Banana Slicer (1, 2). If you want to see them all, go to that first link.

The point of these features is to explore a bit of the item’s history, to explain why it ended up with so many funny reviews. Then, obviously, we read some of those funny reviews. But the second half of each feature sees us ACTUALLY GETTING the product, using it, then giving it a real, legitimate review (plus a funny one for laughs).

As proof, I always take a picture with the product. If you don’t believe me, head over to the Meme Review hub and see for yourself. Ugly Garfield got wild!

In any case, when it came to the Hutzler, I wanted my pics to match my fake review, which described many of the banana slicer’s 570 other uses - an ice scraper, a miniature ladder, etc. The best shots I could frame ended up being the slicer as a sieve and the slicer as a carabiner.

Naturally, being proud of my images (here’s looking at you, Raypose Yoga pants), and wanting to promote this blog and the podcast, I posted them to the socials, where the account known as hutzlerco found them, added them to their story, and THEN added them to the Instagram store product page for the banana slicer.

FOR REAL.

To this day, you’ll see some pictures of the product, a picture of Ellen reading a review (with Julia Roberts??), a fuzzy character from Sesame Street using the slicer, and then me and my dumb face.

Sure, a sweet check would be, well, sweet. But I am happy to have one more shiny badge of honor on the Review Party Wall of Fame. Huh. Now there’s an idea for another page on this site.

Stay tuned!
