Compensated Reviews: United MileagePlus Dining

Okay, so you might not be traveling right now, but chances are you’re still eating, right? If so, AND if you like extra miles (for United MileagePlus, anyway), read on.

OH, and this is again, not an ad. How we wish it were, but alas, we’re doing this just for you, so that the readers of your reviews aren’t the only ones getting something out of it.

Starting at the Start

This is a LIMITED TIME OFFER, now through January 6, 2022. Also, you will obviously need a United MileagePlus account to participate in MileagePlus Dining. It’s free, and if you’re a United flyer even once every few years, it’s worth it; these miles don’t expire anymore folks.

Here’s a quick rundown of how MileagePlus Dining works. Assuming you have a MileagePlus account, simply go to their website and join. Once you are a member, you’ll be able to search your area for participating restaurants read the reviews other members have left. After linking a credit/debit card to your account, any time you time at a participating location will net you miles.

How many miles, you ask? Here ya go (lifted straight from their site):

  • Basic members earn 1 mile per $2 spent if you elect to not receive email communication from MileagePlus Dining.

  • Select members earn 3 miles per $1 spent if you elect to receive email communication from MileagePlus Dining.

  • VIP members earn 5 miles per $1 spent if you elect to receive email communication from MileagePlus Dining and have already completed 11 qualified transactions in the calendar year. (Members start earning at the VIP level on their 12th qualified transaction.)

So as you can see, it’s really easy to boost your mileage earnings just by opting in for emails. And those emails will usually consist of restaurant recommendations for your area, or based on restaurants you’ve already visited.

But you came here to learn about review perks, I know, I know, DON’T YELL!

I’ll let the suits do the heavy lifting again. Here’s how the details are spelled out on their site:

Starting 06/23/2021 through 01/06/2022, this bonus offer is open to all MileagePlus Dining members who have completed a dining transaction at a participating restaurant, bar, or club.

To earn this bonus, you must dine at any participating restaurant, bar, or club, and complete the post-dine survey associated with a specific restaurant visit within 30 days. Member will receive 100 bonus miles for each online review submitted. You may submit only one review for each dining transaction. Limit one restaurant visit per member per participating merchant per day.

Seems pretty simple! One visit, one review, 100 miles in your pocket.

At this point it’s worth mentioning that you can also earn 100 miles by ordering online through the MileagePlus site, but that will cancel out review bonus. You’re only getting those 100 one way.

So if you do takeout a few nights a week, or have a hot sammie for lunch a few days a week, it might be worth checking out your local establishments to see if they belong to MileagePlus Dining. Trust me, you will feel like a boss when you start getting 5 miles per dollar.

Go get your miles and start planning that big trip!
